Wave  /    Mirror
그림의 힘. 그 힘이 이끌어가는 이야기. 그리고 그 이야기를 담는 그릇에 관한 생각. 그것의 총합.
이런 생각들이 바탕이 된 두 권의 책을 전시합니다.
신작 ‘Wave’는 지난 2003년에 출간된 ‘Mirror’의 연장선상에 있습니다.  두 작업은 모두 글 없는 그림책으로 서로 다른 이야기를 담고 있지만, 마주보는 두 페이지가 묶이는 책의 가운데 부분에 대한 관심사를 다루고 있습니다.
한적한 바닷가에서 파도와 노는 아이. 아이가 있는 왼쪽 페이지로는 절대 넘어오지 않는 파도. 파도의 세계에의 궁금증에 책의 접지선을 살짝 넘어가는 아이. (‘Wave’)
오른쪽 페이지의 외로운 아이. 왼쪽 페이지에 비친 자신의 반사상과 친구가 되고, 급기야 책의 접지선으로 섞여 들어간 두 아이. (‘Mirror’)

책이 묶이는 중간 부분은 전체의 페이지를 훑는 독자의 시선을 방해하면서도 사실은 거의 인식되지 않습니다. ‘책’이라는 매체를 구성하는 요소 중 이 접지부분을 오히려 적극적으로 이용해서 만들어본 책입니다. 접지선을 넘어간 이 주인공들에겐 예상치 못한 새로운 세계가 펼쳐집니다.  접지선은 현실과 환상의 경계이기도 하고, 새로운 변화로 이끌어가는 중간계이기도 합니다.

‘Wave’ and ‘Mirror’ are wordless picture books. They have different storylines but share the same idea ‐ about the fold between two facing pages of the book.
On a sunny day, a little girl has fun with a playful wave at the beach. What will happen to this curious girl who crosses over the fold of the book in order to go into the wave’s world? (‘Wave’)
A lonely girl on a right hand‐side page makes friends with the mirrored‐self on a left hand‐side page. What will happen to these girls who are absorbed into the fold of the book? (‘Mirror’)
